The Angels opened their Spring season with a strong victory over Galaxy Blue this past week. Following a tough weekend tournament in Collinsville, they were glad to return to the 9v9 format on an intermediate sized field. 

Almost immediately off of the opening whistle, the Angels controlled the play, using some great passing to maintain possession of the ball. Midfield play was extremely good, with strong play turned in by Abby Grzetic, Megan DeMart, Mikela Gerdes, and Taylor Cassian. Several good scoring chances developed out of the ball-controlled offensive play.  Midway through the first half, the Angels finally struck paydirt, making several passes near the Galaxy penalty area. The final pass was made out to the left, where Kasey Campos blasted a perfectly placed left footed shot to the far side of the net for a brilliant goal.

In the second half, the Angels came out with even more intensity. Macie McCallum was inspirational in her midfield play, seemingly winning every loose ball. McCallum started a great run with a pass up to Safia Hannin, who took the ball deep into the Galaxy zone, near the goal line and fired off a shot that the keeper bobbled. The Angels had been good all night following their shots, waiting for the goal keeper to make a mistake.  On this run, Campos rushed the net, and tapped the bobbled ball into the net for her second goal. From there, the defense kicked in. Megan Dorsey, Abby Glasgow, Rylee Kibbey, Brianna Wunderlich, and Hannah Gerdes held their ground admirably.   Ashley Colaizzi played one of her finest games ever in the net, playing very aggressively.  She turned away every threat mounted by Galaxy to preserve the 2-0 shutout victory.

The Angels' next game will see them travel to play S. Naperville this coming weekend.
