The Angels continued their spring season with a convincing 5-0 victory over S. Naperville Soccer Association. The game didn't start out perfectly rosy, with both teams fighting very hard to take control of the game. Goalkeeper, Rylee Kibbey, did very well to turn away every offensive rush that S. Naperville could muster. Also, good midfield play from Abby Grzetic, Ashley Colaizzi, Mikela Gerdes, and Taylor Cassian set the tone where the Angels were getting the majority of chances. Despite what seemed to be good momentum that was being built, the Angels could not seem to score. The opposing goal keeper played very well in the first half, and the Angels simply missed several chances, leading to a scoreless first half.
Once the second half began though, the tables quickly turned. In the opening few minutes, Kasey Campos delivered a fantastic pass out wide where Megan Dorsey chipped a shot over the keeper's head to open the flood gates. Shortly thereafter Cassian fired a rocket into the net from the left side, obviously frustrating the goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Safia Hannin delivered a great, unselfish pass to Megan Demart, who easily beat the keeper. Cassian then added another tally within a few miuntes. Then, Mikela Gerdes took a shot that appeared to be going just wide of the net. However, a defender came rushing in trying to clear the ball, and suddenly kicked it into her own net. With nearly twelve minutes still to play, the Angels starting playing different positions. Even with this, several other quality chances were had by Abby Glasgow, Hannah Gerdes, Brianna Wunderlich, and Macie McCallum, each nearly resulting in goals. Also, Hannin made her first ever appearance in the net as goalkeeper to close out the game. In the end, it was a total team effort with a great offensive display.
The Angels are now 2-0, and will host the Darien Dynamo this coming weekend.
