On May 16, the Comets played against the Downers Grove Roadrunners. The Comets were able to get on the board early and take the 1-0 lead when Jazmine Newton was able to rocket a shot past the Downers Grove goalie off a corner kick from Megan Popple. The defensive play of Haley Brewer, Nicole Alvarez, Morgan Lancola, and Aubrey Anderson along with the goalie play of Kate Duncan worked hard to limit the Roadrunners scoring opportunities but the Roadrunners were able to find the back of the net on four occasions to take a 4-1 lead going into halftime. The Comets got into an offensive groove in the second half as Loncola was able to score on the first play of the second half to close the gap on the Roadrunners making the score 4-2. The Comets’ scoring continued as Popple was able to knock in another goal to bring the Comets within one goal of the Roadrunners lead with the score being 4-3. Mia Lakstigala, Audrey Mokenhaupt and Hannah Castillo continued with offensive pressure but were not able to get a shot past the Downers Grove goal keeper. The Roadrunners were able to score a final time to win the game 5-3.
