Last Saturday, the Comets competed against the Bolingbrook Raiders at LillyCacheSportsPark. The Comets played aggressive offensively with Haley Brewer, Mia Lakstigala, Hannah Castillo and Jazmine Newton getting off several shots on goal but none were able to hit the back of the net. The defense of Megan Popple, Nicole Alvarez, Morgan Loncala, Audrey Mockenhaupt and Brewer kept the Raiders from getting any offensive rhythm. Goal Keeper Aubrey Anderson made several nice saves on goal. The Raiders were able to score first to take a 1-0 lead. A short time later, the Comets answered back when Popple made a nice read and dribbled the ball from her defensive position into the Raider side of the field. She fired a shot past the Raiders goalie to tie the game. The score would remain tied at halftime. As play resumed in the second half, the Comets continued to play strong defense as Loncala took over in goal to limit the Raiders’ scoring opportunities. The Comet offense worked together to try to take the lead but were not able to score ending the game in a 1-1 tie. The Comets are 1-1-1 on the season and will travel to Downers Grove next week to play the Downers Grove Roadrunners.
