Match Report: 5/10/08 vs. Downers Grove Roadrunners
The U10 Prowlers soccer team played another home game on May 10 during Panther Palooza at PrairieFestPark. The home team did not disappoint the legions of fans who attended verse the Downers Grove Roadrunners. The Prowlers started off the scoring early in the game when Mitch Blocker came streaking in from the left side and put a shot in goal to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. With constant pressure on the offensive end, the aggressive Prowlers led by, Chase Bruns, Mitch Kearby, Jacob Hoopes, Owen Flynn and Timmy Mackey would not let up with shots and pressure on the Roadrunners in the first half. The defense of the Prowlers were again led by Jackson Simon, Hunter Short, Craig Schlegel, Ben Sapet, Cody Gotchie and Kurtis Klingbeil. As the game see-sawed in the first half the Roadrunners were able to sneak one by to tie the score up 1-1 at halftime. The second half saw the Prowlers able to meet the challenge. With Mitch Kearby netting his first goal by catching up with a loose ball after some fantastic hustle by Chase Bruns to give the Prowlers a 2-1 lead. Shortly after that goal, Chase Bruns netted his first goal of the ballgame on a rocket shot in the bottom corner of the goal to put the Prowlers up 3-1. Kearby then tacked on his second goal of the ballgame with a beautiful shot over the goalie to put the Prowlers up 4-1. The last goal of the game for the Prowlers came when Mitch Blocker (second goal of the game) put one in the back of the net on a rebound. The goalie tandem of Gotchie and Klingbeil were again fantastic. Klingbeil had numerous stops in the first half and Gotchie the same in the second half including a penalty kick to thwart the Roadrunners and give the momentum back to the Prowlers. The final score ended up 5-2. The win gave the Prowlers a 3-1 mark on the year. The last home game of the year for the Prowlers is on Saturday May 17 at PrairieFestPark at 3:00.
