The U10 Prowlers made a visit to a very good Naperville Skulls team on Sunday in a battle for first place. The Prowlers have been unable to beat the Skulls team in two previous matches. The first half started off strong for both teams as neither team was able to mount many scoring opportunities. The defense of the Prowlers were led by Jacob Hoopes, Craig Schlegel, Cody Gotchie, Jackson Simon, Ben Sapet and Kurtis Klingbeil. This group of defenders did a fantastic job the whole game in limiting the shots and clearing the ball. The midfield for the Prowlers produced as usual for the Prowlers with Mitch Kearby, Tim Mackey, Mitch Blocker and Hunter Short who all continued to pound the ball down the offensive end to try and create shots on goal. With Owen Flynn and Chase Bruns leading the way up front the Prowlers were finally able to break the scoreless tie late in the second half when Bruns chased down the defender and popped the ball loose and took a nice shot to the bottom corner of the goal. That was the only goal the Prowlers needed. With the goalie combination of Klingbeil and Gotchie the Prowlers won 1-0 and are now tied for first place in their division. This was the first shutout in the Spring season for the Prowlers and the win marked a true team effort. The PROWLERS next game is this weekend at PrairieFestPark with the Oswego Soccer Classic. Over 159 teams will be visiting Oswego this weekend and we encourage you to come out and cheer on the Prowlers as we play at 8:45 and 4:15 on Saturday May 24th.
