Panther Ice U13 Girls soccer team unbelieveably tied again today for the 5th time this season, this time 2-2 against division leaders Homer Hawks. Once again missing several key players and relying on guests from U12 Wildcats Delaney Stryczek, Sabrina Harris, and Stephanie Smick, Ice always looked like they should be winning the game, but couldn't quite connect the dots to score the goals. The opening Ice goal came from Nina Hauser with a great run up the left wing, through the entire Hawks defense and a precise finishing shot. Hawks came back to tie the game just before the end of the first half. The game was intensely physical, and in the first few minutes of the second half Hauser, again on the offensive, was fouled within the Hawks box. The penalty kick was taken by Brittany Straznickas, who calmly placed it in the bottom left corner of the net. Despite great defensive work from Smick, Madison Naro, Chandre Roos, Taylor Robinson, and Emily Maslanka, Hawks managed to get an equalising goal a few minutes later and neither team could make any headway for the rest of the game. Straznickas played a very aggresive, determined game in midfield, and Holly Schwarz had one of her best games pushing the attack. Sierra McWilliams, Bridgett Leverich, Caeleigh Morton, Victoria Short, Stryczek, and Harris all worked hard across the midfied and forward lines and managed to create several scoring opportunities that today Ice just couldn't finish.
