The Stars played at the Bartlett Hawks this past Sunday, looking to get above the .500 mark. In addition to having only one sub for the game, it was a very warm and sunny day. Defense would be the name of the game in the first half. Defenders Holly Gotchie and Maya Bonie gave great efforts to minimize the Hawks first half chances. The Stars were without one player in the usual 3-player defensive rotation. Madison Woolf substituted on defense when needed and, using her speed, made several key tackles throughout the game. On offense, the trio of Kaylee Zimbelmann, Megan Popple, and Morgan Loncala worked hard to get a few chances, but none past the Hawks goalkeeper. The first half ended scoreless.
After a much needed halftime break, the Stars came out strong. Kaylee Zimbelmann scored the first goal of the game a minute into the second half on a great crossing shot. Barlett quickly answered back with a goal of their own. The tie would not last long as Kaylee scored again to make it a 2-1 Stars advantage. The Hawks had one more good chance to score, but Stars goalkeeper Kate Duncan made a great diving stop to her right to save the game. The game ended with Stars winning 2-1 and they are now 3-2 on the season.
