The Angels faced the Darien Dynamo once again this past weekend. The game started slowly, but sure didn't stay that way. About 8 minutes in, Darien committed a foul just outside the corner of the penalty area. Ashley Colaizzi waited for the referee to set the defensive wall, then fired a laser over the wall. The goal keeper got a few fingers on the shot, but not nearly enough to stop it from finding the back of the net. Several minutes later, after some nice passing, Safia Hannin fired a shot into the net, giving the Angels a 2-0 lead. Just before the half ended though, Darien was able to capitalize on an opportunity to cut the lead in half.
In the second half, the Angels came out firing again. Strong ball control was displayed throughout the game. Midfielders Megan Dorsey, Mikela Gerdes, Megan DeMart, Macie McCallum, and Rylee Kibbey, along with outside defenders Abby Glasgow, Hannah Gerdes, and Lindsey Graham continued to work the ball in the offensive zone, creating several good looks at the goal. Hannin got a great pass from Abby Grzetic, beat a defender, and then scored a nice left footed shot. A few minutes later, Grzetic grabbed a loose ball at the top of the 18 yard line and fired her own shot into the net, over the keeper's head. Unfortunately, a defensive miscommunication led to another Darien goal, but this didn't hamper the Angel attack. Within 2 minutes of the Dynamo goal, Kasey Campos dribbled through several defenders, forcing the last defender to commit to her. This allowed Campos to lay a nice pass off to Taylor Cassian, who immediately fired the ball into the net for the game's final tally.
With the 5-2 victory, the Angels are now 4-3 on the season and will travel to Bourbannais this weekend to face Dabrico United.
