The fall season came to a close with an appropriately cold and windy day as the Angels traveled to Frankfort in an attempt to avenge an earlier loss to Lincolnway. As cold as it way, the Angels started out pretty hot. Great ball movement throughout the offensive lines created several shots on net. At about the six minute mark, Taylor Cassian took the ball into the corner with her patented outside move and fired a rocket cross back near the penalty spot. The ball raced by several defenders and came right to a perfectly positioned Megan DeMart, who one-time touched it right into the net for an early lead. Several more chances were had as Abby Grzetic, Ashley Colaizzi, Megan Dorsey, and Brianna Wunderlich played strong offense. Late in the first half, a simple miscommunication at the center line led to Lincolnway grabbing the ball and starting an odd-man rush of their own. After the first attempt for the defense to clear the ball, it squirted out to one of their midfielders who placed a high, arcing shot from 30 yards out that sailed over the Angels keeper to tie the game.
In the second half, the pace of the game slowed greatly. The Angels defense, led by Kasey Campos, Abby Glasgow, Macie McCallum, Rylee Kibbey, and Hannah Gerdes clamped down, preventing several opportunities for Lincolnway. Additionally, Colaizzi was a brick wall in the net, completely erasing any chances that did come her way. With the game still tied very late in the second half, the Angels made one last furious rush at the net. Safia Hannin flicked a ball to the top of the 18 yard line and Mikela Gerdes volleyed it out of mid-air toward the net. Unfortunately, the ball went high, over the crossbar, leaving the Angels with a 1-1 tie.
In their first season up in the B division, the Angels finished with a winning record of 5-4-1, raising the expectations for the spring season. They will begin the indoor season in December at the Sports Dome in Aurora.
