Angels Fall Short Agaist Dabrico
Monday, 02 November 2009 08:23

The Angels got a Halloween treat when they learned that their game at Dabrico was not going to be played in Bourbannais, but rather at home in Oswego this past Sunday morning.  The game started out with both teams locking heads with each other, both refusing to give any real opportunities to the other.  Both sets of offenses were able to create chances, but each time, the defense thwarted the attacks.  The Angels defensive line, led by Kasey Campos, Macie McCallum, Mikela and Hannah Gerdes, Brianna Wunderlich, Lindsey Graham, and Megan Dorsey were fantastic with their efforts.  Continually turning away Dabrico attackers and starting offensive runs became the norm for them.  Unfortunately, a freak play led to a Dabrico attacker receiving the ball in a 1v1 situation with Rylee Kibbey, Angels goalkeeper.  Kibbey was able to stop the initial attack, but the ball then deflected off of the attacker, squirting just behind her outstretched hands, where the attacker was able to push it into the net for a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Angels defense continued to be impressive.  This time around, the defense was able to start offensive attacks.  Safia Hannin, Abby Grzetic, Taylor Cassian, Abby Glasgow, and Megan DeMart got several looks at the net, though the Dabrico keeper continued to turn away all shots.  The game pace picked up to a feverish level, with both sides running up and down the field.  Ashley Colaizzi protected the goal and started several runs with some booming punts.  As time was running out, the Angels were pushing hard for a goal, sacrificing defensive players to flood the offensive zone.  Dabrico was able to catch them on one occasion and make them pay with a very well placed shot into the corner of the net, giving them a well earned 2-0 victory over the Angels.

This week the 4-4 Angels will play host to the Galaxy Blue team.
