Angels Survive Scare Against Galaxy
Monday, 23 November 2009 08:03

On an absolutely beautiful November day, the Angels hosted the Galaxy Blue team.  The Angels started out extremely slow, looking to find their way against their foe.  Galaxy played much stronger and crisper than they did during the previous meeting, letting the Angels know they were in for a rough day.  Midway through the first half, Galaxy jumped on the board by flooding the goal mouth with several players on a corner kick, finally punching the ball into the net.  The Angels were not able to counter, hitting halftime trailing 1-0.

In the second half, it was much of the same.  Defensively, the Angels did turn it up a notch though.  Kasey Campos, Brianna Wunderlich, Megan Dorsey, Hanna Gerdes, Rylee Kibbey, and Lindsey Graham shut the door, giving the offense a chance to climb into the game.  Midfielders Abby Grzetic, Mikela Gerdes, Megan DeMart, Taylor Cassian, and Abby Glasgow started applying some good pressure on the Galaxy squad.  Finally, Safia Hannin was able to grab a shot that rebounded off of the keeper and slide it into the net for the equalizer.  Several minutes later, the Angels were awarded a gift penalty kick, where Ashley Colaizzi came out of goal and drilled it into the net to take the lead.  For the last few minutes of the game, the defense stood tall and preserved the victory.

The Angels are now 5-4 and will wrap up the season this next weekend as they travel to play Lincolnway.
