The Comets finished an incredible season on Sunday, defeating the BSC Raiders in Bolingbrook. Early in the game, Angeline Lewis controlled a rebound and knocked it into the net for what would turn out to be the game-winner. The score remained 1-0 until halftime. The Comets defense was in its usual shut-out form. Angeline Lewis, Haley Brewer, Jaycie Simon, and Nicole Alvarez prevented any serious shots on goal during the first half.
In the second half, Jaycie Simon threw the ball in perfectly to Holly Sutkay who put it in the goal from outside the box. A short time later, Rachel Savaglio crossed the ball from the right side of the Raiders' net to Riley Cassian charging from the left. Riley one-touched it past the goal keeper for the third goal of the game. Savaglio then shot the ball from over 20 feet out under the goal keeper for the 4-0 win.
Megan Newton, Holly Sutkay, Haley Brewer and Lauren Gotchie each took a turn in goal. Mia Lakstigala nearly scored on a number of occasions, but just could not put the ball in the net. The win sealed first place in the division for the Comets.
On behalf of the coaches, we would like to say that it was truly a joy to work with the girls this season. The progress the girls have made since last fall is impressive to say the least. The girls had 6 shut-outs and only allowed 5 goals while scoring 34 goals during league play. It was truly a dominating season with the only loss coming in a tournament game to the TCSA Lady Bulldogs, a "B" division team that is currently undefeated in league play. Even in that game the girls played tough and lost by just one goal.
We are very proud of each and every one of the girls. They played tough and exhibited great sportsmanship at all times. The players should feel proud of what they accomplished.
Great job Champs!!!
