Comets Have Complete Game
Monday, 02 November 2009 04:08

The Comets faced the DDSC Dynamo U10 Red at home on Sunday. The Comets were able to keep the ball near their opponent’s goal a good portion of the first half, leading to the first of three goals by Megan Popple, the first off a nice pass from Hayley Brewer. Close shots on the goal by Audrey Mockenhaupt and Morgan Loncala were turned away. The Comet defense of Brewer, Loncala, Nicole Alvarez, Jazmine Newton and goalkeeper Kate Duncan kept DDSC scoreless, and the first half ended 1-0.

In the second half, Popple came out quickly with her second goal off a pass from Duncan, and followed it up with several more attempts by both herself and Brewer before the ball was knocked in the goal by a DDSC defender, increasing the Comets’ lead to 3-0. Continued offensive pressure by Popple, Alvarez, Hannah Castillo and Aubrey Anderson wore down the DDSC defense. Alvarez made a nice pass from the right sideline to Loncala in the middle who passed it out to Popple coming down the left side of field.  Popple buried the shot to give her the hat trick. Goalkeeper Mockenhaupt kept DDSC out of the net with help by a fine defensive tackle by Brewer. Castillo had a few more close shots on the goal turned away before the whistle blew, giving the Comets a 4-0 victory.

The Comets (3-2-3) will wind up their season next weekend with two games, first at home on Saturday, November 7 against the DG Roadrunners White, and on the road in Plainfield on Sunday, November 8 against the PSA Legends Premier.
