Orange Crush still in the hunt for 1st place
Sunday, 24 October 2010 21:04

While the author for these articles may have taken a couple weeks off, the girls of the Orange Crush have not. With just three games left in the fall 2010 season, they are 6-0-1 and welcome the TCSA Fury to town on Halloween for a 1st place showdown. This week the girls visited Galaxy and walked away with a convincing victory 4-0. Brianna Welch scored on a P.K. after her sister was tripped. Brittni Ice followed shortly after with a brilliant shot from the left side of the goal, over the keepers head. Rachel Mittelstaedt recorded the assist. In the second half, Jessica Sendef laid a short pass in front of Cori Welch who after two attempts, finally put one away as the third time is a charm. To finish the scoring drive, Mittelstaedt scored with a short chip shot from the corner of the box on a cross from B. Welch.

Looking back to the previous games, Abby Fioresi scored the only goal in a draw against Team Chicago. It was a very physical game but the Crush gave as good as they got. When the girls visited TCSA AC, the game was a little more lopsided. The Crush stayed on the attack all game, peppering the opposition's keeper. Recording over 30 shots on goal, four different players contributed to the 5-1 victory, including Megan Rasmussen, Rylynn McCaw, B. Welch, and Fioresi. The following week was much the same when the Kaneville Knights came to town. While it wasn't a shutout, the Crush used six players to combine for a 7-1 victory, including Kacie Moran, C. Welch, McCaw, Rasmussen, Ice, and Carissa Brown who tallied her first two goals as a forward.

None of the above would be possible if not for the outstanding play by the defensive force of Emily Brandt, Camryn Beyers, Alexis Henz, and Madison Lockard. Taylor Peck also made big contributions on the field with her tenacious play as an outside wing. She was instrumental is setting up several of the above scoring drives.
