The U11 Prowlers traveled down to the Ardennes Forest of Hickory Hills on Sunday afternoon with a showdown vs. Inter FC and like the 101st Airborne Division at Bastogne the Prowlers were out manned but never gave up. The Prowlers were down a player against the Inter FC team and on a hot day had no subs to rely on. The Prowlers battled the whole game and did not let being short a player or the heat affect them. They came away playing a great game that ended in a 0-0 tie. The Prowlers opened the game with plenty of chances to score and limited the opposing team thanks to the defense of Hunter Short, Kyle Straznickas and Jackson Frazer. Mitch Blocker, Tim Mackey and Mitch Kearby played strong in the midfield for the Prowlers and Nathan Molina played aggressive up front. Chase Bruns turned back numerous shot attempts in goal and played great. When asked if the Prowlers were ready to surrender, General Blocker had a single response, “Nuts!” and inspired his soldiers to push on.
The second half saw the Prowlers starting to tire but they never gave up. Frazer, Short and Straznickas initiated a late game assault with a Straznickas shot just going wide of the goal. Like a P-47 Thunderbolt the pressure that Molina kept applying up front enabled the Prowlers to start attacks while getting some much needed rest as well. The 8 battle weary soldiers played a GREAT game holding off the Inter FC offensive. With only 1 game left the Prowlers have a mark of 4-2-3 on the year and like Patton’s Third Army carry on to fight another day.
