On Sunday, December 27th, the Stars traveled to Lynwood, Illinois to play in the Midwest Wings' Christmas Cup Tournament. The first game was against an overmatched Midwest Wings team. The Stars won the game 12-1, with contributions from all the girls both defensively and offensively. Since the Stars had not played as a full team since November, it was a good warm up game.
The second game was against the Schaumburg Phoenix, a "B" division team. Again, the Stars made it look a bit too easy, defeating the Phoenix 8-1. The Stars attacked every ball and really did a nice job defensively. The third game was against the Tanners, a boys U-10 team. The game was well played and the Stars lost 4-1. Despite the score, the Stars had multiple opportunities to put the ball in the net, but just could not finish. On the flipside, the Tanners had multiple shots that just missed. Overall, the Stars played tough and showed that they will not be intimidated by anyone.
The championship game was again against the Phoenix. This time, the Phoenix came out more aggressive than they were in the first game. The Stars were up to the challenge and earned first place with a 7-4 victory. The winter indoor season starts the second weekend of 2010. Hopefully, the Stars will use the season to work on developing their individual skills and team play.
