On Sunday, the Stars played their second league game of the fall season.  They took on the Chicago International Homer Glen at Prairie Fest Park.  The only time the game was close was at the initial whistle.  The Stars defense played just about mistake free, with Angeline Lewis, Holly Gotchie, and Maddie Woolf securing the defensive side of the field.  As the game progressed and the score became one-sided, other Stars contributed on defense as well. Maya Bonie played well in goal during the first half and contributed in the field during the second half. Mia Lakstigala’s athleticism provided a lift throughout the game. 

 The scoring started early and never stopped.  After an early handball in the box, Kaylee Zimbelmann calmly rocketed her penalty kick into the upper right corner of the net.  Nicole Alvarez scored two goals, with her first coming after she fought to win a 50/50 ball and her shot went off the opposing goalkeeper and in the net.  Haley Brewer deposited the ball into the net after Kaylee Zimbelmann’s corner kick bounced around in front of the goal without either team getting a good foot on the ball.  Riley Cassian joined the scoring fun on what she admits was not a powerful shot that managed to sneak past the keeper.  

A bit later, Holly Sutkay nailed a long shot which sailed over the keeper and into the top part of the net.  After a perfect corner kick from Lauren Gotchie, Rachel Savaglio one-touched the ball past the keeper with her left foot.  Nicole Alvarez then scored her second goal of the day on a penalty kick and Morgan Loncala struck a very accurate shot past the keeper for the last goal of the game.  

With the 9-0 victory, the Stars improved their record to 1-1.  Next week, they travel to Downers Grove to take on the Roadrunners Black, a long-time rival who should provide stiff competition.
