The Stars played their last game of the season this past Sunday, looking to finish the season with a winning record. They played the Fire Jrs Black team who had beaten the Stars 1-0 earlier in the season. The Stars started off strong and spent much of the opening minutes on the Fire side of the field. Megan Popple had the first good chance at a goal off a goal kick from Kaylee Zimbelmann but was denied. On defense, Madison Woolf, Maya Bonie, and Holly Gotchie worked hard to keep any pressure off of goalie Morgan Loncala, who stopped any shots that came her way. The Stars continued the offensive pressure throughout the first half, but could not tally a score. Finally, the Stars got the break they needed as a Fire player was whistled for a hand ball in their own box. Zimbelmann calmly shot it to the upper corner and past the goalkeeper to stake the Stars to a 1-0 lead by halftime.
The second half saw Audrey Mockenhaupt make her debut in goal and she performed great. She made several saves early in the first half to preserve the Stars' advantage. The Stars' defense continued to work hard, disrupting the speedy Fire attackers' chances at the goal. The Fire were finally able to break through on a nice shot that sailed in just below the crossbar to tie the game 1-1. Both teams were determined to break the deadlock as great effort was displayed by both teams. In the final seconds of the game, Zimblemann kicked a long goal kick down past midfield, where Loncala dribbled it up and sent a nice crossing pass to Brittni Ice. Ice got all of it as the ball sailed high and banged off the crossbar and away from the Fire goal. The whistle blew and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. It was a great game played by both teams. The Stars finished with a 3-3-2 record in their first season in the B division.
