Panther Soccer Club would like to recognize the special work being performed by one of our newest members, Amanda Christianson. As you read about her work, you will see that her leadership and service is truly impacting lives around the world.
Amanda has attended the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy (JFSLA) camp for the past three years. This camp encourages the girls to "Choose to Matter". In doing so, they are taught ways to lead both on and off the field.
Amanda started Amanda's Cleats for Kids three years ago, choosing to matter. She collects gently used cleats and sneakers, as well as new socks. To date, she has collected over 700 pairs of shoes. She has been sending the donated items to kids in Haiti with the help of a program called New Life for Haiti.
After seeing pictures of the people she has helped, like the one below, Amanda has expanded her efforts to include collecting team "uniforms" (anything from t-shirts to pinnies).

Amanda's project competed with other projects from the JFSLA camp and was chosen as the winning project through a public vote. As the winner, she was awarded an all expense paid trip to the London 2012 Olympic games.
While there, she will tour Wembley Stadium, Olympic Park, and the Olympic Village. She will also get to meet some athletes and possibly play in Wembley Stadium. She has already had a once in a lifetime experience, watching the USA defeat Japan in the women's gold medal soccer match! She will also be attending track and field events and the bronze medal match of women's indoor volleyball.
