This summer the Orange Crush is sporting a new look after merging with the Magic and they traveled to the Dubuque Blowout Tournament this weekend looking for an opportunity to show what they are made of. On Saturday, they opened against the host club's DSC Wildcats. It took the team a bit to figure out some of their new lines and to shake off some of the summertime rust, but they did manage to dominate the time of possession and field presence. They had numerous opportunities to score but settled for a 1-1 draw.

In the second game of the day, the Crush quickly fell to a 4-1 deficit against the Muscatine Wildcats. The ladies started out slow and flat and going into the half it appeared that the Wildcats might be the better team. However, in a tale of two halves, the Crush regrouped in the second half and went on a scoring frenzy  notching five goals to secure a 6-4 victory, sending the Wilcats home licking their wounds.

On Sunday, the sunny skies were traded for grey clouds and a steady rain that made the field wet and the ball slippery. The Crush squared off against the ISC Avalanche in a must win game where the victor moved on to the championship. The defense once again previailed for the Crush and set up a number of scoring opportunities. The ladies put up two quick scores and continued to dominate the game. The Avalanche would not go away quietly and came back to score one of their own before the final whistle sounded for a third Orange Crush victory.

The ladies took to the field for the championship game against the DSC Sparkz  who obliterated their bracket before squaring off against the Crush. The rain soaked field  added to the challenge and everyone's nerves were tingling. The Sparkz were bigger and faster, but the Crush came out on the attack. They continually steered the Sparkz into traffic forcing them to turn the ball over. No one backed down in the shoving match and the Crush worked together to create beautiful passing lanes that set up multiple scoring opportunities. After taking a two goal lead, the Crush remained focused on the prize and repeatedly turned the Sparkz attack away. The Sparkz did rally back late with a sqeaker against the post, but the Orange Crush were too strong. When the final whistle ended the game, the Orange Crush were victorious with a 2-1 win.  It was a very nice way to begin a new era in Orange Crush soccer!
