On Wednesday the Panther Pride traveled to Naperville to take on the Eclipse, under the lights at the Naperville Central Stadium. The two teams battled back and forth until mid way through the first half when Eclipse broke through the Pride defense and scored. The Pride continued to battle and came up golden when Madison Pence dug the ball out from deep in the Eclipse corner; taking on two defenders she was able to feed the ball to Jordyn Sundberg who sidestepped a defender to make a pass to Mikaela Mockenhaupt who put a left footed shot into the upper corner to tie the game up. The half ended tied 1-1. The two teams battled back and forth through the second half. The Eclipse went on top when the Pride were unable to clear a bouncing ball in front of the net and the Eclipse forward put it in for the score. The Pride had more opportunities but were unable to capitalize resulting in a 2-1 defeat.
On Sunday the Pride played their final game of the fall season, against Windy City, with a victory they would lock in a second place finish. The Pride defense of Kamryn Coppes, Hannah Ehlers, Carli Hix, and defensive midfielder Jodie Makara came out with determination and played with a resolve that shut down the Windy City offensive attack. The Pride took control of the game when Mockenhaupt won the ball in the middle, made a pass to Kelsey Kraft who evaded the Windy City defense and let loose a frozen rope cross to Pence who chipped it in for the lead. The half ended with the Pride up 1-0. The Pride came out in the second half dominating the play. Outside midfielders Alyson Simon, Katie Warren, Cali Bonie, and Megan Pfister controlled the sides of the field stopping the Windy City attack and created scoring chances. The hard work paid off in a corner kick that Pence sent bouncing in front of the net that was found by Kraft who put it past the keeper for the score. Minutes later Kraft beat the Windy City defense and was taken down in the box. The referee awarded a penalty kick that Kraft buried in the corner of the net. The Pride closed out the scoring when Sundberg made a nifty pass in front of the Windy City net to Pence who bounced the shot off the bottom of the cross bar into the back of the goal giving the Pride a 4-0 victory. Kristy Zimbelmann and Makara shared the keeper duties and recorded their fifth shutout of the season. With the victory the Pride earned a Second Place finish in the AB South Division. Congratulations Panther Pride!
