The Panther Pride traveled to St. Charles Monday night in a match against the TCSA Premier Black (MRL). Conditions were ideal for soccer; cold, wet and raining. The first half had both teams fighting to maintain possession of the ball with much of the play occurring at midfield. Both teams had early opportunities to score that just missed the mark. The superb defensive effort of Maddie Pence, Kamryn Coppes, Lizzy Kelley, Carli Hix and Hanna Ehlers held the TCSA offensive attack at bay giving the Pride offense time to score.
The Pride were able to open the scoring when Jordyn Sundberg fought and won possession of the ball, evaded the TCSA midfielders and made a pass to Kelsey Kraft who out ran the defense holding them off until she put a blistering shot past the keeper. TCSA evened the score when they lofted a ball over the outstretched hands of the Pride keeper just before half time.
The Pride made some offensive adjustments during the break and came out on fire in the second half dominating the play from the whistle. Midfielders Sundberg, Jodie Makara, Caitlin Lukowski, Katie Warren, Megan Pfister, and Gianna Lopez controlled the field setting up Pride scoring opportunities.
The Pride broke the tie when Kraft made a pass to Mikaela Mockenhaupt who went past the defense sending a wicked off balance shot off the keeper to a waiting Lopez who buried into the net. The Pride added to the lead a short time later when Kraft made a pass to Mockenhaupt splitting the defense, who then held off the defender and sent a blast at the keeper which rebounded to a waiting Lopez who pounded it in for her second goal.
Forwards Kraft, Mockenhaupt, Kaitlyn Olcott, and Taylor Bailey provided the Pride offensive attack. Nicole Charielle filling in at goalie had an outstanding game making multiple saves in adverse conditions to preserve the 3-1 Panther Pride victory.
