The U11 Prowlers competed in the Oswego Soccer Classic over Memorial Day weekend along with 120 other teams.  The Prowlers came away as Champions winning their age division.  The first game was against the Strikers Elite team and they won 3-0.  The Prowlers quickly got a lead from Gabe Lopez who deposited a shot in the corner.  Chris Grober followed that with goal of his own followed by Mitch Kearby.  This was the first of two Saturday games for the Prowlers.  The next game saw the Prowlers face a tough 3 Rivers team.  The Prowlers played strong again and won 7-0.  Mitch Blocker, Tyler DeBoer (2), Tim Mackey, Lopez, Grober and Kearby all scored in the game.  The Prowlers controlled the game with Hunter Short, Micheal Panek and Jackson Frazer limiting the opposing team by playing a great defense.  Adrian Veseli, Nathan Molina, Jakob Slavin also contributed with non stop hustle and some great passing.  The Prowlers played a 3rd game Sunday morning against the Aurora Kickers and won 4-0.  The Prowlers hit the crossbar twice on shots by Lopez and Kearby but finally managed to get one past the keeper when Panek made a beautiful shot from 30 yards out to the corner of the net to give the Prowlers a 1-0 lead.  Later that game Kearby scored on a nice pass from Slavin and Mackey scored as well on a great shot to the bottom corner and to end the scoring was Lopez on a cross by Blocker. The final game was against the Aurora Flames.  The Prowlers came out strong and had ample oppurtunities to score but could not get one past the keeper.  The Flames missed a penalty shot and then the defense of Frazer, Veseli, Panek and Short took over.  No one could get by this formidable threesome who saved their best game for the Championship game. The midfield of Grober, Blocker, Kearby, Mackey and DeBoer kept up the constant attacking and the forwards of Molina, Slavin, Lopez  had plenty of chances with some great shots and passes.  They played fearless and allowed the Prowlers to keep counterattaking.  Finally, late in the second half Lopez had a break away that was blocked by the Flames goalie but Kearby hustled from behind and settled the ball down and stuffed his shot in the back of the net to give the Prowlers a 1-0 lead and the Championship.  The Prowlers earned 38 out of a possible 40 points and were led in goal by Chase Bruns.who played brillantly throughout the tournament.  He did not allow a single goal in 4 games and made numerous game changing saves throughout those four games.  This gave the Prowlers their 3rd Championship this year.  Through the heat and humidty of the weekend the Prowlers played a total TEAM game and won. The Prowlers play their last home game of the year at PrairieFest Park on Sunday June 6th at 3:00 come early to get a seat. These four wins give the Prowlers a 9-2 mark on the year.
