Stars Defeat Chicago Wind
Monday, 19 April 2010 13:55
The Stars began the Spring season on Sunday, taking on the Chicago Wind in their first game after moving up to the AB division.  Perhaps a bit anxious, the Stars started slowly, allowing their opponent to score the first two goals.  Rachel Savaglio then stepped up and scored to cut the deficit to 2-1.  A short time later, Riley Cassian sent a crossing pass to Kaylee Zimbelmann who knocked it in for the 2-2 halftime score.  After allowing the two early goals, the defense really stepped up, calming the Wind during the final two-thirds of the game.  Angeline Lewis, Maddie Wolf, Maya Bonie and Holly Gotchie did a great job of shutting down any Wind offense.  Brittni Ice played very well, with nearly half a dozen shots on goal and putting forth maximum effort to win 50-50 balls.  Lauren Gotchie and Holly Sutkay also played solid soccer.  The only score of the second half came after Riley Cassian centered the ball to Kaylee Zimbelmann who netted the game winning goal.  It should be noted that the Wind had a winning record in the AB division last season.  The Stars take on Spartan FC Select in two weeks for their second league game.
