On Sunday, the Stars took on long-time rivals Lemont Raiders. It was a windy day and the Stars had the wind in their favor for the first half. Nicole Alvarez started the scoring early, taking a beautiful throw in from Angeline Lewis and one-timing it into the right side of the net. Despite having the wind, the Stars just could not put the ball into the net until near the end of the first half. After a foul, Kaylee Zimbelmann set the ball up on the Stars' defensive side of the field. She then calmly struck a terrific ball that played the wind and, on one bounce, tipped off the keeper's fingers and into the goal from past mid-field. Lauren Gotchie played very well in goal the entire game and showed that she has the makings of being a terrific keeper now and in the future. The half ended with the Stars Leading 2-0.
In the second half, Lemont had the wind and managed to score somewhat early. Mia Lakstigala took a run started on the defensive end by Kaylee Zimbelmann and raced past the only Lemont defender in the area. The keeper came out to challenge Mia, but Mia beat the keeper and scored what turned out to be the game winning goal. Despite stellar defense played by Holly Gotchie, Maya Bonie, Maddie Woolf, and Kaylee Zimbelmann, Lemont managed to score again to make it a one goal game. During the last five minutes of play, Lemont had about eight corner kicks, including one that struck the crossbar, but the Stars defense held, preventing a score and preserving the victory. The Stars remain in first place in league play.
