On Sunday, the Stars took on the only team they had not beaten in the winter season, the NSA Thunder. Earlier in the season, the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie. This time around, the Stars came out on fire and took no chances. Within the 1st minute, Kaylee Zimbelmann struck a hard pass to Riley Cassian. Riley controlled it nicely and shot from the top of the box into the right side of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Lauren Gotchie played very well in goal for the Stars in the first half and stopped several shots to prevent the Thunder from scoring. With only 3:30 left in the first half, the Stars added a goal. Throughout the first half, the Thunder keeper would roll the ball in front of her and then kick it downfield. This time, both Rachel Savaglio and Kaylee Zimbelmann were ready. As soon as the keeper rolled it, they attacked and caused the ball to shoot about 15 feet straight into the air. Rachel struck the ball very well with her head, obviously trying for the goal. The ball shot past the keeper from about 10 yards out for the 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Stars again struck quickly after Holly Gotchie kicked the ball in to Rachel Savaglio who then beat the keeper for the 3-0 lead after only 30 seconds had elapsed. Thereafter, in a manner similar to the first time the teams met, the Thunder poured on the pressure. They had numerous shots that just missed and Maya Bonie, the Stars goalkeeper in the second half made a number of great saves. The defense again played very well, with Angeline Lewis, Holly Gotchie, and Maddie Woolf supplying the speed and skill to prevent even more shots on goal. Despite Bonie's skill and the defensive prowess, the Thunder managed to score one goal. Holly Sutkay and Brittni Ice also supplied plenty of offensive pressure with Ice's powerful leg almost scoring on multiple occasions.
The Stars finished the regular season with a 10-0-1 record, scoring 59 goals and only giving up 10. They play Galaxy Blue this Friday for the final game of the indoor season.
