Stars Remain Unbeaten This Winter

On Sunday, the Stars took on Plainfield Legends Premier for the second time this season.  The first time the teams played, the Stars cruised to a 7-1 victory.  This time around, it was a much tougher contest.  Kaylee Zimbelmann played well in goal for the Stars in the first half, making several nice plays.  The Stars offense of Riley Cassian, Rachel Savaglio, Holly Sutkay and Lauren Gotchie kept the pressure on the Plainfield defense, but just could not put the ball in the net.  For the first time all season, the Stars failed to score a 1st half goal and the half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Brittni Ice took over in goal for the Stars.  Ice and the defense of Maddie Woolf, Maya Bonie, Holly Gotchie, and Angeline Lewis preserved the 4th shutout of the season.  Angeline Lewis nearly scored when the ball rolled right in front of her in the box.  She got so excited that she rocketed the ball over the crossbar and, if the netting behind the goal didn't stop it, the ball would probably have sailed about a mile from the field.  About halfway through the second half, Kaylee Zimbelmann was going in for a shot when a Plainfield player knocked the ball into her own net to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.  A short time later, Lauren Gotchie put the Stars up 2-0.  Overall, the Stars played well but missed several scoring opportunities.  They remain undefeated with a 9-0-1 record going into the final regular season game.
