Stars Complete U10 Year; Take 2nd Place in AB Division
Monday, 14 June 2010 10:13

The Stars began the year in the fall of 2009, competing in their 2nd season of play in the IWSL "B" division.  After a hard-fought ten game season, the Stars took 1st Place, earning them a berth in the AB division.  Since there are much fewer teams in the highly competetive AB division, the Stars played teams from as far as Libertyville, Northbrook, Schaumburg, Elmhurst, and Evanston.  Dispite the increased level of competition, the Stars continued their winning ways.  They compiled a 6-2 record and captured 2nd place in just their first season in the tougher division.

It should also be noted that the U10 Stars had a very successful Winter Indoor Season, finishing the 12 game season undefeated with a record of 11-0-1.  The Stars played in a number of tournaments, including 3 tournaments where they played against 11 year-olds instead of playing in their U10 age group.  In two of the tournaments against 11 year-olds, they were seeded into the more competive bracket.  Despite the increased competition, they played well and even managed to take 2nd place at the Oswego Soccer Classic against 11 year olds.  During their U10 year, they compiled a record of 42 wins, 11 losses and 4 ties.  Their U10 record is a huge accomplishment considering that over half of their losses came to older teams and a boys' team.

The team members, Kaylee Zimbelmann, Angeline Lewis, Rachel Savaglio, Maddie Woolf, Lauren Gotchie, Holly Gotchie, Holly Sutkay, Brittni Ice, Maya Bonie and Riley Cassian, became a close-knit team during the U10 year.  Not only did they have a very successful year, they exemplified the spirit, comraderie and sporstmanship that the Panther Soccer Club strives to attain.  We are very proud of their accomplishments and are excited to see what they can do in the future.  Congratulations Stars!
